KNMS Student Attends Space Camp

Aiden Gutierrez, seventh grader at Knob Noster Middle School, attended Space Camp August 26-31, 2018. The Space Camp was held at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama and provides a unique, hands-on, STEM experience for students of all ages to train like astronauts. Aiden was nominated by his science teacher and travelled to Alabama to join other campers from across the nation and world to discover real-world applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Aiden was immersed in multiple experiences during camp to learn what it means to be an astronaut. He navigated a tumble in the Mulit-Axis Simulator and practiced moonwalking in a 1/6 Chair Simulator. The simulators are patterned after those used by NASA. Aiden also had opportunities to connect a solar panel, mix chemicals as astronauts do with science experiments in space, and practiced communicating via headset to Houston. Campers constructed and launched their own model rocket and participated in multiple activities to develop team-building and communication skills.

Coming home equipped with his own blue space suit, with a graduation certificate, and a backpack full of Space Camp swag, Aiden emphasized that he enjoyed making new friends at Space Camp. Aiden and other campers continue to stay in touch through a group chat.

Thank you to Edmentum for sponsoring Aiden’s trip to Space Camp!
