Lions Club Artwork 2019Lion's Club International peace poster competition is open to all students ages 11-13 years old. Each year our local Lion's Club reaches out to our district and provides three students the opportunity to be judged at the local and state level with hopes of competing at the International level. Though the competition is open to all students, the Art I students which consist of 7th and 8th graders at the middle school all come up with and create original artwork for the competition. Their artwork must follow a theme, this years theme was Kindness Matters. All artwork must be original, follow the theme and can not use any form of writing from any language. The staff at the middle school vote on the top 5 pieces, those 5 pieces are then judged by the other art teachers in the district or UCM art students. This years finalists where 8th graders Jackie Knaus, Alyssa Anderson and 7th grade Isabella Stohs. Jackie's artwork placed 1st followed by Isabella in 2nd and Alyssa's work came in 3rd. All 3 pieces were sent to the state level where Jackie's Watercolor painting placed 3rd overall. Each student was presented a check by the local Lion's Club chapter and Jackie was presented with her 3rd place state check at the district luncheon on February 23 in Richmond Mo.
